Why did Lori Stokes Call it Quits from Eyewitness News after 17 Years?

It is never an easy thing to see the people we love and respect retire or quit from their professions. Just today, ABC station fired one of its longest associated anchor and journalist Lori Stokes. Learn why and how she bid farewell to her job of 17 years.

Why Lori Stokes Left Eye Witness News?

Yes, folks, it is official that 17 years and running Lori Stokes, co-anchor of the top ranking program Eye Witness News The Morning and The Noon is leaving the not just the program or WABC-TV network but bidding farewell from ABC station. Here is the network’s official page releasing the news on Twitter.

The star bid farewell in today, 16th of August transmission of Eye Witness news with her all of her anchor colleagues giving her a warm farewell. It was her co-anchor Ken Rosato who broke the news first and stating the reason for her leave as to pursue better opportunities. He then gave way to a small video montage tribute to Lori and her contribution in reporting some of the biggest stories like 9/11, Hurricane Sandy and Inauguration of former President Barrack Obama.

Then Lori herself spoke out with tearful eyes and a cracked voice, “I want to end this on a super high note,” she continued, “Let’s just say I’m shifting gears. Thanks for going on this incredible ride with me, and I know we’ll see each other again.” She was very grateful for her last words a large chunk dedicated to her viewers. We understand her strong connection with the viewer’s many of whom reacted to her leaving on Twitter and bid farewell.

Lori Stokes stumbled into the doors of the WABC-TV in 2000 where she started by presenting the 5 p.m. news after a short run in the morning news. She was selected as the co-anchor for Eye Witness News the Morning edition and has been an original co-anchor for the show.

She started off a little rocky with co-anchor Rob Hanrahan as the show’s ratings plummeted from their number 1 ratings. Luckily, a smart replacement of Hanrahan with Steve Bartelstein did much better and brought the program back to its first rank in ratings. They eventually even took over Eye Witness News The Noon edition.

Lori Stokes Bio:

Lori Stokes was born on September 16, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended two Universities; Ohio State University at first and then later enrolled at Howard University. Her father, Louis Stokes was a former congressman in the House of Representative for more than 30 years and founder of the Congressional Black Caucus. Sadly, he passed away on August 18, 2015.

Lori was married to estranged Brian Thompson and they have two grown up daughters; Nicolette and Alexandra Thompson. As fans of Lori, we can only wish her best of luck on undertaking her new opportunities.
